GONZALES, Monterey County — November 3, 2026, election-night count. Three separate trustee-area contests in Gonzales Unified School District show early leaders following the November 3 election.

What the first returns show

In Area 2, Erin Askew received 63 candidate votes, Marvelia Valdez 53 and Joe Sanchez 46. In Area 3, Maria D. Cuevas received 150 votes to Gerardo Villegas’s 91. In Area 4, Abraham Flores Avila received 107 votes, compared with 69 for Rubycela Valdez.

Why this race or measure matters

Each trustee area has its own electorate. Askew’s ten-vote lead over Valdez in Area 2 is particularly narrow, but the published figures are an election-night snapshot, not a final result. Families should consult new official county returns before concluding who will serve on the school board.

Result status and reporting cutoff

This article uses Monterey County returns reported as of approximately 8:30 p.m. Pacific on November 3, 2026, as reproduced by Salinas Valley Tribune. These are not newer November 5 figures and are unofficial. Additional mail ballots, provisional ballots, and canvass work can change the counts. Consult the county election office before relying on an outcome as final.
